July 4th Independence Day Celebration

 

You and your family are invited to spend July 4th with us in Independence, California. A day of pride, patriotism, flag waving and family fun.

The Parade Grand Marshall will be Arlene Grider.

The liberty we have in our great nation and the beauty and open spaces of the Independence region inspire creativity and achievement. Independence has been the home of creators, adventurers and discovers like Mary Austin, Norman Clyde, Mary DeDecker, Evelyn Eaton, Iren Marik and General John Singlaub.

Tuesday July 3

8:00 PM to Midnight
Music and Dance will be held at Dehy Park

Wednesday July 4

6:15 am
Flag Raising Ceremony
American Legion Members will start the day by raising our country's flag to the national anthem in Dehy Park.

6:30 - 9:00 am
Independence Lions Club Pancake Breakfast
The Pancake Breakfast will be held in Dehy Park. Have breakfast in the park!

7:00 am
4K/10K  Run/Walk
Part of the Independence July 4th celebration and targeting the sports minded, the 4K Run/Walk and the 10K Run sponsored by the Independence Civic Club is set for Wednesday, July 4th.

The course winds through scenic Independence and heads out to pasture lands with seasonal creeks and stunning views of the snow covered Eastern Sierra and the Inyo Mountains The participants circle the alfalfa fields and come back through town for a fast finish back to the starting point.

9:00 am
Independence Day Art & Crafts Show. The show will be held on the front and back lawns of the Historic Inyo County courthouse located in the center of town on Edwards Street (Hwy. 395).

10:00 am
July 4th Parade
The parade begins at 10 am and travels up Edwards Street (Hwy 395).

The parade is the essence of small town life, with young and old, dogs and horses, floats and fire engines displaying pride and patriotism. Everyone is invited to be in the parade. Prizes and certificates are awarded to best of class entries.

12:00 PM
Home Made Pie Social
The United Methodist Women, renowned for their cooking hold a homemade Pie Social at Dehy Park.

2:00 PM
Olde Tyme Kids Games
Frog Jumping Contest and fun races will be held at Dehy Park in this Independence Chamber of Commerce sponsored event. From toddler to adults (everybody is a kid!) are invited. Parents bring their kids back "home" to play the games they did as kids on Independence Day. Ribbons and trophies for the winners and participants will be given out.

4:00 to 6:30 PM
Deep Pit Barbecue
A Deep Pit Barbecue is served by the Independence Civic Club members in Dehy Park.

 

Dusk
Fireworks Display
As the sun goes down and dusk arrives head for the Independence Airport and The Grand Finale Fireworks Display put on by the Independence Volunteer Fire Department.
