Spring
Early
Trout Season
The season opens on the first Saturday in March
(March 3, 2012). All waters bounded by the Inyo County line on the south and
west, Independence Creek on the north, and Highway 395 on the east are open
to trout fishing. This special season allows trout fishing enthusiasts well
over a month jump on the regular trout season for the Sierra.
Easter Egg Hunt
Open to children 10 and under at 1 p.m. Easter Sunday on the Courthouse lawn.
Manzanar Pilgrimage
The Pilgrimage is held on last Saturday in April (April 28, 2012) at the Manzanar National Historic Site. Since 1969, the Manzanar Committee, a non-profit educational organization, has sponsored the pilgrimage for former internees and interested others. The popular Manzanar At Dusk program where the generations come together to share information, learn from oral histories and cultural performances, is held on this weekend.

Annual Manzanar Reception
The Independence Chamber of Commerce and Friends of the Eastern California Museum invites you to the Manzanar Pilgrimage
Reception on Friday, April 27, 2012 4:00 - 6:00 pm. You can meet and greet old
and new supporters of Manzanar at the Eastern California Museum, 155 N. Grant,
Independence. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served.

Trout Season Opener - April 28, 2012
Streams north of Independence creek open for fishing. Season continues to the end of October.
Wildflower Bloom
Bloom begins in early spring on the valley floor and progresses up the mountains into late summer.
Summer
Father's Day Weekend Fishing Derby
Independence welcomes all anglers - young and old. Local residents
and visitors to our area are invited. We invite visitors to experience
our incredible scenic beauty, unspoiled environment and wide open
spaces.
The fishing derby is a "Blind Bogey"
event - so everybody has a chance to win. Prizes are awarded to the children
and adults.
4K
Run/Walk and 10K Run
Part of the Independence July 4th celebration and targeting the sports minded,
the 4K/10K Run will be held on July 4th, 2012.
The course winds
through scenic Independence and heads out to pasture lands with seasonal creeks
and stunning views of the snow covered Eastern Sierra and the Inyo Mountains.
The participants circle the alfalfa fields and come back through town for a
fast finish back to the starting point.
Bring
the whole family for some good exercise and fun!
July 4th - Independence Day
4k Run, Breakfast in Dehy Park, Parade down Edwards St. (Hwy
395), Olde Tyme Kids Games, BBQ in Dehy Park, and Fireworks display
at the Airport. Arts & crafts, games, pie & ice cream
social, concerts. Independence Day in Independence is a very special
time. Come celebrate July 4th with us.

Fall
Fall Colors
The streets of Independence, the creeks and mountain canyons offer
colors ranging from subtle to spectacular. Pleasant daytime
temperatures, brilliant sun and cool crisp nights make Fall a very
special season.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner
The whole community gets together for an afternoon meal.
Winter
Christmas Eve at the Courthouse
Santa and his reindeer appear on the Courthouse roof at 6 p.m. He
then comes down to the lobby with gifts for the little ones.
