4th Independence Day Celebration
Where should July 4th be celebrated? In Independence of course, a day of pride, patriotism and flag waving and family fun. You and your family are invited to spend July 4th with us in Independence, California.
The liberty we have in our great nation and the beauty and open spaces
of the Independence region inspire creativity and achievement. Independence has been the home of creators, adventurers and discovers like Mary Austin, Norman Clyde, Mary DeDecker, Evelyn Eaton, Iren Marik and General John Singlaub.
Flag Raising Ceremony
American Legion Members will start the day by raising our
country's flag to the national anthem in Dehy Park.
Independence Lions Club Pancake Breakfast
The Pancake Breakfast will be held in Dehy Park.
4K Run
Part of the Independence July 4th celebration and targeting the
sports minded, the annual 4K Run sponsored by the Independence
Chamber of Commerce is set for July 4th, 2008.
The
course winds through scenic Independence and heads out to pasture
lands with seasonal creeks and stunning views of the snow covered
Eastern Sierra and the Inyo Mountains The participants circle
the alfalfa fields and come back through town for a fast finish
back to the starting point.
Independence
Day Art & Crafts Show. You
are invited to attend or be a part of the Independence Day Art &
Crafts Show. The show will be held on the front and back lawns of
the Historic Inyo County courthouse located in the center of town
on Edwards Street (Hwy. 395).
July 4th Parade
The parade is the essence of small town life, with young and old,
dogs and horses, floats and fire engines with flag waving pride and
patriotism. Everyone is invited to be in the parade which starts at
10 a.m. Trophies are awarded to best of class entries.
Pie & Ice Cream Social
The ladies of the Pioneer Memorial Methodist Church, renowned
for their baking serve homemade pie and ice cream in the shade
at Dehy Park.
Olde Tyme Kids Games
Frog Jumping Contest and fun races will be held at Dehy Park in
this Independence Chamber of Commerce sponsored event. From toddler
to adults (everybody is a kid!) are invited. Parents bring their
kids back "home" to play the games they did as kids
on Independence Day. Ribbons and trophies for the winners and
participants will be given out.
Deep Pit Barbecue
Deep Pit Barbecued Beef with salad, beans and all the trimmings is
served by the Independence Civic Club members in Dehy Park.
Fireworks Display
As
the sun goes down and dusk arrives head for the Independence Airport
and The Grand Finale Fireworks Display put on by the Independence
Volunteer Fire Department with the generosity of
the business community, residents and friends of Independence.
There
is a nominal charge to enter the airport to watch the fireworks.
This charge helps to make the fireworks possible. Please support
this traditional July 4th event even if you view it from afar.
